I support Farming.
In fact, you could call me
If it’s 3am and you find yourself in a world of complete despair
Please do not turn to strangers on the internet for solace as I did
Please climb onto my bed
And I will hold you until the demons sleep
If it is Thursday morning and you are too sad to move
I won’t force you
I will buy ice cream and we will watch your favourite tv show and I will remind you of your importance
If you feel as if you have no purpose
I will remind you that you were created entirely with love and every pain you feel, I feel too
When you’re sure you can’t go on anymore
I will tell you that when I was 21 I searched for peace at the bottom of a vodka bottle chased by a bottle of pain killers
But that five years later
When you were placed in my arms in the delivery room
I realised that you were why I had been holding on
Without realising it, you saved me, do you know how amazing that is?
So if you ever feel like grabbing that vodka bottle, put it down, we will get in the car and I will drive until the sky turns magenta
I will show you how the sun rises every morning to encourage you to rise too
Sweetheart I refuse to be unaware of your sufferings
As my mother was to mine."
An Open Letter To Achievement Hunter
Now, for starters, I love AH. Duh. I wouldn’t be on this site or continuously support all that Achievement Hunter creates if I didn’t enjoy the comedy stylings of…
I absolutely see what you are trying to say. However I disagree. On the flip side fans flip shit because AH bleeps and edits some of the conversation from their videos. I remember recently Michael actually spoke out to fans on twitter about it. AH knows their boundaries and like he said “whats appropriate among six friends isn’t appropriate for their millions of followers/subscribers”. When they use certain language they aren’t using it to harm certain groups of people or marginalize them. They aren’t pointing their fingers and laughing in fans faces. They are expressing there humor and ideas in whichever way they choose to. Because they are people and they make their own choices. Not once have I experienced a video where they have been offensive. what it usually amounts to is the fans who put to much thought into the words, that get offended. They (AH) are very lighthearted and in no way try to hurt the feelings and thoughts of their fans. I absolutely love Achievement Hunter but I feel bad for them too, ya know? They work hard and give content everyday to please their fans and in return they get hundreds of ugly, nasty You tube contents criticizing and attacking them for their choices.
As for the feminism part, Lindsay (My absolute idol) has received unwarranted hate just because she is new to AH videos and female. No one from AH will ever complain that since she is a girl she can’t play video game, but that doesn’t stop the “fans” from attacking her.
As Lindsay has stated multiple times she is a girl who just happens to be an achievement hunter.
I don’t know, but I think if you truly loved them (as you stated at the beginning of your ”open letter” you would understand that asking them to go out of their way and change their personality/behavior is not something they will/should listen to. Achievement Hunter wouldn’t be what I know or love if they changed. And I don’t want them to change, it isn’t worth it. No matter who is complaining.
Sorry if this comes off as rude. That is not what I’m aiming for, I just think it’s important for people to understand that they work hard everyday to give to their community. And asking people to change themselves for putting themselves out their is wrong.
I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT WANT THEM TO CHANGE. NOT FOR ANYBODY.
Yeah no. I agree. Because I didn’t say half that stuff.
I probably should have kept in something I wrote in an earlier message though:
“I suppose the point of this whole message is not that I want Achievement Hunter to change. You guys are everything to me sometimes, and it’s nice to have something to look forward to each day. It’s the continued use of misogynistic slurs (while not aimed at women, are STILL misogynistic) by people I want to continue to admire that needs to be changed. Even just bleeping it out would help! (See: Fibbage Let’s Play)”
By using that word (literally it’s one word??? i’m not tryna change their personalities??) they are telling the young fans that it’s okay to say this word when it absolutely is not. I noted that you did not once bring up the phrase “c*nt” or any form of it. Because the “”open letter”” (thank you for the quotes) is about the ONE WORD.
Letting boys (and some girls) hear you say these words, it teaches them that “Hey! Goofy Gavin Free can say this! And he’s popular! So should I!”
I also make this an open letter because I’ve been trying to contact members of Achievement Hunter for almost a month and a half now. And I haven’t gotten anything. I hoped by shedding my opinion (because it is) I could help some people realize that “Hey! This isn’t a cool word to say!” and maybe they would pay attention to it.
I mean, they care about their community, don’t they?
Of course they care about their community. However the point I’m trying to make is they are busy people who don’t have time to sift through the endless piles of BS in order to find that one constructive comment, in which yours has value.
This I will agree with you on. And you are correct in the fact that I didn’t mention it. C*nt is not an appropriate word. You will never personally hear me say it. However I am constantly at war with myself over the English language. There is absolutely bad connotations, but society and the world have basically striped it of it’s meaning today. The word and it’s meaning is selective to people but if you are letting Goofy Gavin Free effect your speech then maybe some people are right, and their videos aren’t meant for everyone.
From every video I have view (Which is a lot) whenever the word is used it isn’t meant or used in the true meaning of the word. It is used more as a joking or playful manner, which I think you have recognized. Because I have realized this the word hasn’t affected the way I think of AH.
However, I do stick with my point that affecting their speech patterns will change their behaviors. Asking them to stop what they do could effect the way they interact with others.
For example ( and I recognize that this is personal for me) I have a friend who calls me out every time I swear. While I am an adult and I realize I can quite literally express myself however I please, him calling me out every time effects my speech pattern. I become weary of my words and even stop myself from speaking out because of it.
This makes me act different from the person I am, and has me questioning how I portray myself.
And while not everyone is the same, asking or pointing out the way someone acts, talks, and thinks may effect them subconsciously.
I’m not accusing you of anything, because your letter is well written but its how your open letter portrayed. However your paragraph that didn’t make it into your final draft does clear up what you are asking and trying to establish. You want more bleeps. I get it. You want someone to go over videos and make sure no one hears the nasty word(s).
And I know that this is the internet and what not but I wasn’t trying to attack you. I was stating my opinion in accordance to your opinion.
